Calvino’s Secret.

Hello dear viewer, at last you are here. Yes, I know who you are and knew you wouldcome. And of course you know me too, forI am the reader made famous by the great Italo Calvino, in his novel ‘If on awinter’s night a traveller.’

Having had the most unique advantage of being within andpart of the mind of the late, great Calvino I have been party to a closelyguarded secret, I have been preparing my telling of his story. Using narrative, not like that of Calvino asthat would be plagiarism, I will here reveal to you, the viewer through themedium of photographic imagery.

Ah dear viewer I can feel you shuffle forward to the edge ofyour seat, the anticipation rising, ‘What secret can the reader know?’ I know you are anxious, I know I have hookedyou like the expert fly fisherman. Butdo not be so tense, relax sit back with a glass of your favourite wine, breathedeep and be calm. Prepare yourself forthe surprise and the journey my images are about to take you upon.

Calvino was not only a man of great intellect but humour too. It was this humour that led him into creatingthis great secret that I shall soon reveal to you dear viewer, just be patient,it will be worth the wait.

On his death bed, Calvino handed a manuscript to hispublisher demanding that this completed book of tales should not be publisheduntil the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death. This anniversary falls on Sunday 19 thSeptember 2010.

The book ‘Helter Skelter’ is an eclectic collection ofstories that Calvino had written over a number of years. They come from a breadth of times and space, though all deal with a common theme that of the mystery of life and death.

Until the release date I again urge, no demand that you sitback and read my images. See if you caninterpret the writings of Calvino or can you visualise your own stories, influenced from what you now have in your hands. I will just add a note of caution as youstart your journey, be aware of your journey’s course, as you will need toreturn to your reality. Each reader’sjourney will be different as after all we all have our own ways of seeing.
